DTSC hosts workshops when the Safer Consumer Products program announces a new plan, products list, regulation, or other significant steps taken. The workshops provide the public an opportunity to discuss the scope and content of these milestones. DTSC staff also participate in a variety of other public events for interested parties, such as describing and providing updates regarding the SCP program, hosting sessions or speaking at technical meetings.

Draft Product-Chemical Profile for Paint and Varnish Strippers and Graffiti Removers Containing 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP)

DTSC’s Safer Consumer Products (SCP) Program will hold a  workshop on September 18, 2018, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Pacific Time. DTSC proposes naming Paint and Varnish Strippers and Graffiti Removers Containing 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as a priority product.  DTSC will present a summary of  the draft Product-Chemical Profile that explains the scientific, regulatory and policy basis for the proposed priority product.

A public comment period for the draft Product-Chemical profile is open until October 1, 2018.  To submit comments regarding the profile please visit the CalSAFER website. Input from the workshop and public comment period will be taken into consideration as the department finalizes the Product-Chemical Profile in preparation for rulemaking.

NPEs in laundry detergent: Draft Product-Chemical Profile

A public workshop was held on June 11, 2018 to discuss DTSC proposal to list laundry detergents containing the surfactants nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) as a Priority Product with a Chemical of Concern. DTSC has developed a draft technical document, the Product-Chemical Profile on Laundry Detergents containing Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs), to explain the scientific, regulatory, and policy basis for the proposal.

Monetizing Impacts to Public Health - A Case Study of Select Air Pollutants by the US EPA

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control's Safer Consumer Products (SCP) Program held an Alternatives Analysis Webinar on March 5, 2018. This was the first of a series of webinars aimed at expanding the toolkit available to responsible entities when conducting Alternatives Analysis (AA). The goal of this presentation was to provide an example of how expert practitioners have conducted analyses monetizing chemical impacts to human health. Dr. Ali Kamal of the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) presented an example of monetizing the health impacts of select air pollutants.

DTSC held a public workshop regarding the Draft Work Plan on February 26, 2018. The workshop was held in Sacramento, California and was open to the public. The purpose of the workshop was to provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the Work Plan.

DTSC also held a written comment period for the public to comment from February 12, 2018 until March 9, 2018. Comments regarding the Draft Work Plan can be reviewed on the CalSAFER site.
